I was raised in Wausau, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison,
where I completed both my undergraduate degree and medical school. While there, I
was fortunate enough to become involved in leading scientific research on the formation
and growth of new blood vessels. Data from those studies went on to be published in
some of the countries most respected medical journals, and has been used to advance
treatment in the fields of cardiovascular medicine and oncology. I believe it was
during this period that I developed my interest in vascular medicine and micro-surgical techniques,
which eventually led me to this subspecialty.
After medical school, I decided I wanted to "see the West", and interviewed at most of
the major university residency programs in the Western United States. Again I was
fortunate, and matched at the University of Arizona, Tucson. I went on to complete
my Residency training there and successfully passed my board exams.
I then returned to Wisconsin and practiced with St. Mary's Duluth Clinic, Superior.
While there, in addition to my regular duties as a staff physician, I served as the
chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and co-founded the hospitalist
program at St. Mary's Duluth-Superior Hospital.
Subsequently, I completed a private Phlebology Fellowship in Chicago with one of the
countries largest groups of physicians dedicated exclusively to the treatment of vein
disease. I practiced with that group for many years, and was involved in the care of
literally thousands of patients with vein disease. During my tenure there, I helped
train other physicians, nurses, and ultrasound technicians in this rapidly evolving
field.
I have had the privilege to be invited to many of the hospitals and clinics in southern
Wisconsin to lecture on the recent advances in the treatment of vein disease as part
of continuing medical educational series for physicians and other health care providers.
I am an American Medical Association recognized Phlebologist (vein care expert), and an
active member of both the American College of Phlebology and the Wisconsin Medical Society.
